If you are using pre-printed checks with MICR encoding, you can use any printer,

If you need to print paycheck on blank stock, We suggest MICR ink printer and laser printer for ezPaycheck payroll software. Some ATM machines and grocery store may not be able to scan the checks printed by the normal ink-jet.
